Wardell Piper – The Power Of Love

Pioneer of Philly soul with First Choice and first lady of disco. Wardell’s pipes are an instrument for ecstasy and could uplift even the most miserable bastard. I first heard this absolute screamer at Dekmantel’s take over of Studio Spaces. MCDE was regulating the blackstudio with his goody-bag of records and supreme selections, slipping this gem into his disco infused mix. Jubilation filled the room and I paraded around, revelling in awe of what I was hearing.

After leaving First Choice and Philly Groove Records, Wardell pursued a solo career with  Midsong International Records, producing her self-titled album, featuringCaptain Boogie and Super Sweet. Released on 45 in 1980, John David produced and arranged The Power of Love. More recently the track has received the Tom Moulton treatment, for your extended listening pleasure.
