Last weekend I was lucky enough to visit Corsica Studios for a masterclass from Dinky and Mike Huckaby. Ramping up proceedings in the newly revamped room 2, Panorama Bar resident Dinky captivated the excited crowd with Midland’s ‘Final Credits’ and Move D’s ‘I Gave My Love’. To foster the vibe, she used garage infused techno rollers, muses of deep, jazzy house and Shan’s Nu Groove inspired rave anthem ‘Caliber’.
Warmed up and appetites whet, we made our way into the smoke-filled neon haze of the main room for a trip through the contents of the Mike Huckaby’s record bag. The revered Detroiter took us on a journey through house music, incorporating Latin and jazz influences in the form of Julien Jabre’s ‘Voodance’ and Carl Craig’s adaptation of Donald Byrd’s ‘Think Twice’.
As we delved deeper into the night, tracks such as Kerri Chandler’s instrumental remix of RiskSoundSystem’s ‘This Sound Is Yours’ and Mr G’s ‘Music For All’ kept us going till dawn. The maestro Mike Huckaby certainly knew how to keep us grooving and both DJs displayed their might with carefully crafted and seamlessly navigated sets, making yet another memorable night at Corsica Studios.
